The line-up of games that were shown during last night PlayStation State of Play was a clear W for players from all walks of life, whether they are VR vampire mom enthusiasts, roller derby fanaticor fighters who have finally crossed the street into the open world. But a game’s journey that joined PlayStation’s stacked list of game releases was as anime as its own crazy premise. That game Eternal nights.
Eternal nights, developed by Studio Sai, is a hack-and-slash JRPG set in a post-apocalyptic world where a mysterious infection turned humans into raging monsters. As you can see from the announcement trailer, Eternal nights is full of everything that makes a JRPG amazing: you have your cool protagonists with magical powers, dungeons filled with traps and puzzles, and trustworthy party members that you can hold down the R2 button to hold hands with while watching the sunset – wait ( check the Steam page) Oh, Eternal nights is also a dating swim. Right on.
Yes it is true. Love bay bay. Beside Eternal nights lightning fast anime-like JRPG action, you will also “fight for those you love” during your downtime, schedule dates and get closer boys and girls in the apocalypse. After all, you have two hands that can apparently grow back from cutting; why would not you use them to fight for a cure for humanity at the same time holding hands with one of the five cute survivors in your company?
In addition to some moderately spicy visual novel artwork during romantic scenes, Eternal nights also has 2D animated intermediate sequences that change depending on which girl or boy you are dating. But time is of the essence. You can use it by deepening your relationship with your companions while unlocking new skills (just like in real life), searching the land to save supplies, or simply saying “miss me with that BS” and Leeroy Jenkins does yourself into the first dungeon you see. To each his own.
If you think that a JRPG that works as a dating sim sounds very similar to the works of Persona series, you’re right. In fact, after playing Person 5, Persona 4 Goldenand Persona 3 FES, Eternights’ developer quit his job as a technical artist at Apple to continue making his game.
Growing up playing games Final Fantasy VII, FFVIII, and FFX, Studio Sai founder Jae Hyun Yoo told Kotaku that the time spent building deep romantic connections with a small group of characters while dealing with the real-world time management of a calendar resonated with them the most.
“Creating those experiences [in Eternights] where [my] main desire, “said Yoo.
Yoo has an impressive resume. Prior to Apple, he worked as an engineer at Thatgamecompany and as an FX animator at Walt Disney Animation Studios. To give you an idea of Yoo’s chops, he worked on Elsa’s dress transformation in Freeze, portalmagi in Great hero 6and the pixelated destruction of Sugarland in Röjar-Ralf.
The first pictures the internet ever saw Eternal nights was in one 2019 r / Unity3D subreddit post by Yoo. Then, Eternal nights went under the project name Kafka and was described as Persona meet The devil may be crying. Jae published the game with a calendar system, time management and relationship-based game with its RPG pieces replaced by hacking and slashing.
Outside to ask questions about 3D model rigging and share inspirational videos from Persona Series director Katsura HashinoJae published a series of updates on Eternal nights. These updates include Persona-inspired character introduction trailerearly animation cells from the trailer My Hero Academia-inspired punchand battle images.
“I remember my mother was worried [Eternights]”I guess she was a little relieved yesterday,” said Yoo.
Nothing is more anime than coming to your senses after finding inspiration from the greats who come before you. Plus, your debut game will be shown alongside such as Final Fantasy XVI and Resident 4 Remake is quite nutty.
“I hope you enjoyed this first look at our debut game,” Jae said in one PlayStation blog posts. “As a storyteller, I have always wanted to mix a love story with adrenaline-fueled action. I wanted players to have a strong, personal reason to push them forward in battle encounters and feel that they were fighting for more than just their own survival – they fought for those they love. . ”
Eternal nights is ready to carry the torch from Persona as the game’s Prometheus who sends the fire of battle and romantic party members with the masses. I can not wait to hold my hand and – dare I say smock some waifus and husbandos – oh and save the world when Eternal nights releases.
Eternal night is scheduled to be released in early 2023 on PlayStation 4, PlayStation 5 and PC.
