Pokemon Scarlet and Violet Trailers seem to suggest a new gym theme – IGN

Pokémon Scarlet and Violet’s second trailer revealed new Pokémon, locations and people – but more remarkable tips on a potential gym theme. What if Pokemon Scarlet and Violet’s gym are themed after Formula 1? There is a chance that it may be MotoGP instead, but given the heavy vehicle theme we see between new legendary Pokémon and in other elements, one or the other theme seems plausible.

Game Freak is not shy about leaving tips about upcoming announcements in its trailers. The first trailer, for example, featured four Nintendo Switch on a single table that now serves as a nod to the co-op for four players. Below is our analysis of several screenshots from both the first trailer and the second that makes us believe Pokemon Scarlet and Violet has one of Spain’s most popular motorsports. And come on, the legendary Pokémon literally have wheels sticking out of their chests.

Legendary Pokémon design

At first glance, only Miraidon, Pokemon Scarlets box Legendary, looks related to technology. In the second trailer, we can clearly see Miraidon’s jet engine legs in action and its digitized eyes. Its maw, which may resemble scales, actually resembles carbon fiber on closer inspection. Sure, jets are mostly made of carbon fiber, but so are Formula 1 cars, due to their superior strength, durability, heat resistance and incredibly low weight. According to motorsport.com, using carbon fiber for F1 cars was a new development in 1981 with the debut of the McLaren MP4 / 1. In the past, F1 cars were made of basically the same material as regular cars. Although F1 cars in our world obviously have wheels that ordinary cars have, the Miraidon here has evolved beyond the need for them.

Not Koraidon though. Scarlet’s box Legendary looks completely naturalistic, except that the tire protrudes from the chest. Although it does not work in its current state, it is not uncommon for Pokemon to have different shapes, even wild. Maybe Koraidon and Miraidon will get new shapes that make them … drivable. Ridbar? To further speculate, we believe that Koraidon can be turned into a “vehicle” in water due to its swimming-skin hands and feet, and Miraidon into a kind of aircraft. They can also just be design motifs. Regardless, they are vehicle-related motives.

A new kind of Pokemon Center

These structures seem to replace traditional Pokémon centers, but they have an easily accessible design for outdoor use complete with an outdoor seating area.

They are even shown with this design inside cities (shown below), but when seen outdoors, they always have sidewalks around them. They are similar to “gas stations” and can serve as a “pit stop” for tired trainers and their Pokémon.

The nurses are not overly clear, but each one appears to contain at least two individuals, one of whom appears to be a nurse Joy with a cap on her pink hair. There are three distinct banners under the counter – blue, red and green. The blue can represent Poke Mart objects, red Pokemon Center and green can be various objects. Above the service desk is an enclosing screen with advertisements for a variety of things, from travel, to shoes and … even tires.

A region with … Tire advertising?

It’s a little hard to tell, but behind our friend, Nemona, is an ad on the far side of one of the Pokémon Center depot stops. Zoom in on the same ad behind her Pawmi to get a wider picture. It appears to be an advertisement for a specific brand or type of tire, with a tread design in black and yellow behind the main text.

Maybe the Qwilfish mascot alludes to the extra grip the tire has in tricky terrain.

Gym space

If Game Freak follows a similar framework as Pokemon Sword and Shield, then there is a good chance that this proposed F1 theme will be presented most prominently in Scarlet and Violet’s gym. In this image of a large castle city, the encircled modern structure in the hills stands out not only because of its design, but also because of its location. F1 racing requires lots of space. What better place to have an extra large gym than in the mountains right next to the city? The screenshot perfectly hides what lies beyond the highest part of the building. The building itself seems like it could be small for a gym, but the size can make sense if the structure we see accommodates the stands that overlook the gym.

Even though the Scarlet and Violet gyms only have F1 in theme without any real racing, we are still left with a big question: why does this region require so much space for Pokemon battles? Sword and Shields Gigantamax used the height of football stadiums, but which mechanic will use the space and the implied speed of F1? There is a chance that this theme can be used only for aesthetics.

The other tips

Crossed flags are an iconic symbol of racing. These are shown in the second trailer in connection with what appear to be other landmarks, possibly the marking of gyms or other places of interest.

The second trailer also featured a revelation of the “complete” logo for Pokemon Scarlet and Violet. The text logos have both prominent edges with a profile of their respective legendary Pokémon and four mysterious symbols. Interestingly enough, these logos look like ornate license plates. Note that the details on the tiles (the quarter wheels on the top right and left and even the pattern on the border) also mimic the design of the legendary Pokémon. Even though F1 cars do not have license plates, this still agrees with the car theme.

This theme may be completely off the mark, but why else would Pokemon Centers suddenly look like gas stations? Be sure to tell us about your Pokemon Scarlet and Violet theories below.
