Social media has buzzed with a steady dose of nostalgia and excitement about whether the classic is GoldenEye 007 gets a makeover for Xbox. The 1997 Nintendo 64 game did not have many expectations to meet but quickly continued to become a commercial and critical hit while showing the success of first-person shooters on game consoles.
The title had a set Xbox Live Arcade (XBLA) remaster back in 2008 after being under development on Rare. The full replay of XBLA was streamed on YouTube last year, with an almost final playable ROM image leaking online, according to VGC reports.
The latest developments in the issue almost confirm that the game possibly exists, and players may get an announcement soon, probably at the upcoming Xbox & Bethesda Showcase.
Players are eager to step into Bond’s shoes as a remastered GoldenEye 007 is likely to be announced soon
The noise around the remaster has continued to grow ever since the power last year. Recently, industry insiders @ Wario64 shared on Twitter the performance list for the game that can be viewed on the Xbox website and a link to it.
XBLA remake was developed already in 2008 at Rare, which reportedly had completed its conversion, removed most of the bugs and only needed two more months. It had to be canceled because the discussions between Nintendo, MGM and Microsoft went through. Rare later released the game’s spiritual sequel in Perfect Dark.
In January 2022, TrueAchievements shared a performance list for the game, while noting that the list differed from the discontinued XBLA GoldenEye 007 remake that was leaked last year. The article further stated that it was not yet clear whether the rumored game would be a remake, remaster or re-release.
It was rumored an announcement would follow shortly after, but that has not been the case. The latest developments have expected to make fans happy that there really is a GoldenEye 007 game going on and that they will once again be able to step into the classic as the iconic British agent.
Xbox & Bethesda Showcase 2022, which is part of the ongoing summer game party, will be a perfect event for an official announcement of the remaster of GoldenEye 007. Nostalgia for the older title, which marks its 25th anniversary in 2022, and the longing for the British the spy will surely make all such communication an instant hit.
Historically, licensing the James Bond image for video games has been a difficult procedure. Keeley Brenner, who spoke with gamesindustry.biz, explained that:
“You have to make sure you stay true to the brand. Stay true to your brand bible, and your fans will follow. Because they will tell you if you’re wrong. There’s a huge community out there. [behind each IP] and you do not want to quarrel with them. You want to make sure they are advocates and mouthpieces for the brand. You want to do something for them that they are proud of and you are proud of. It’s all about the quality of the game. “
Creating this iconic Bond experience is not easy and can justify the reluctance to adapt the films to games with will and pleasure. But recently, there has been a marked change in the owners’ attitude. IO Interactive, known for its Hitman series, leads Project 007, which will feature an original Bond story in which players receive their 00 status.
The timing is perfect for the announcement of the remaster of the Bond game that launched the hype around it all – GoldenEye 007 on Nintendo 64. And what better place to do that than on the upcoming Xbox & Bethesda Showcase.
