Although it is easy to download and install iOS 16, be aware of this pre-release is not intended for general use, especially because iOS 16, like all developer beta versions, may currently have unfinished features. These early beta versions are intended for developers, to help them keep their apps up to date while providing early access to the latest features.

Before downloading iOS 16, here’s what you should know

Because iOS 16 is an early prerelease version, the software will be full of bugs and other issues.

Again, if you are considering downloading iOS 16, do so on a backup or secondary phone, if available. Problems with the iOS 16 beta preview can paralyze your phone and make it difficult to use, disable phone calls or text messages, or make it extremely lagging. But if you only have your headphones or tablet available, ensure back up your device to iOS 15 before updating to iOS 16. This way, you have the opportunity to return to iOS 15 if there are too many problems with the new operating system.

In addition, you must have one iPhone 8 or later to run iOS 16. The next update of mobile software will not apply to iPhone SE (2016), iPhone 6S, ‌iPhone‌ 6S Plus, ‌iPhone‌ 7 or ‌iPhone‌ 7 Plus.

If you have not already done so, sign up for Apple’s developer program

The first step to getting iOS 16 on your iPhone or iPad is to sign up for Apple’s developer program if you’re not already a member. If you use your iPhone or iPad, you can register as follows:
